Recycled Polyester

What is Polyester?

Polyester is a manmade fibre consisting of polymer, it is a very popular material because it doesn’t lose its shape and shrink even after washing as well as saving ironing time as the fabric doesn’t wrinkle. It is a very durable and resistant to many chemicals. It is quick drying so a very popular choice for outdoor clothing.

What is recycled polyester?

Recycled polyester uses PET as the raw material which is the material used in plastic bottles. How it works is the plastic bottles are cleaned and disinfected then crushed into small chips. The chips are heated and cleared through a spinneret where they become strings of yarn and are wrapped into spools. After being passed through a crimping machine it becomes a fluffy wool. Finally, the yarn is baled, dyed and knitted creating recycled polyester.

Why is recycled polyester better?

Using recycled polyester lessens the reliance on using petroleum as the main source of raw materials while using recycled polyester you get the same effect as non-recycled polyester. You’re still getting a fleecy feel from recycled polyester while saving the environment as it prolongs landfill life, using less air, water, soil contamination and reduces toxic emissions from incinerators.
